There is nothing more boring than a bunch of white paper with tons of black letters on it. Am I right? All those words.

But did you know: reading doesn't have to be boring. It can even be fun. I know; I know. It's hard to believe.

Think back to the last time you saw words that didn't bore you.
Was it a magazine?
Was it a cheater's guide to a video game -- or dialog boxes inside a video game?
Was it the menu at your favorite restaurant -- or maybe the placemat?
How about a sign telling you how close you were to your vacation? Or a sign advertising a new toy?

Guess what? When you saw all those words, you were reading. That counts! And the more words you read, regardless of where
you see them, the more you'll learn. And learning is kind of addictive. The more you learn, the more you want to learn.
That means you might even want to broaden your horizons and read something else. Maybe something a little longer.
Maybe something with less pictures.

Here's something else: reading can take you places. It can show you how other people live, how other people think, and
maybe how a character got out of a sticky situation you might find yourself in. It can show you you're not alone. It can
help you relate to other people. And it can be funny. Or exciting. Or scary. Or interesting.

Reading can be anything you want it to be. You just have to find the right thing to read.
